Liberal National Party Leader Tim Nicholls says Gold Coast residents should be livid after yesterday’s pitiful announcements dressed up as a budget.
Mr Nicholls said Labor’s budget was a con designed to protect Annastacia Palaszczuk’s job and pork-barrel Labor held seats in Brisbane.
“Every single Gold Coast residents will continue to suffer under this bad government - power, water, rego are all set to skyrocket to cover Labor’s incompetence,” Mr Nicholls said.
“Labor’s debt, will reach $81.1 billion for the first time in history, this means every man, woman and child in Queensland will owe $15,795 each.
“There are now $81.1 billion reasons why Gold Coast residents should not vote Labor.
“Let’s be honest, if it wasn’t for blind luck with regards to a bump in commodity royalties this state would be flat broke.
“We were promised a job bonanza but what we got was a jobless budget, we are now facing a full blown jobs crisis across the state.”
Mr Nicholls said no amount of shiny trinkets or promises could cover the fact that once you scratched away the surface there wasn’t much substance.
“Gold Coast residents aren’t stupid – they have seen straight through the spin and rubbery figures,” he said.
“But they will certainly start seeing through all the spin when Labor starts delving deeper into their hip pockets.”
LNP Albert MP Mark Boothman said Labor had not delivered one single new infrastructure project for the region in this year’s budget.
“This do-nothing Labor government continues to starve Gold Coast of vital infrastructure investment – they have essentially sold out us out,” Mr Boothman said.
“Once again the Gold Coast will miss out on its fair share in favour of securing inner-city Brisbane votes.
“Labor always promises the world but never, never delivers.”
Newly-endorsed LNP Bonny candidate Sam O’Connor said Annastacia Palaszczuk should hang her head in shame over her failure to deliver for the region.
“She even had the hide to slash infrastructure and road funding across our region and funnel it towards a shiny new tunnel for Brisbane,” Mr O’Connor said.
“This is not good enough – Gold Coast residents deserve better and we deserve our fair share.
Mr O’Connor said wholesale electricity prices had skyrocketed by a staggering 70% under Annastacia Palaszczuk’s watch.
“Gold Coast families will now be paying an extra $50 for electricity this year as a result,” he said.
“Because of Annastacia Palaszczuk, struggling Gold Coast families are $105 worse off when it comes to electricity prices this year.
“Gold Coast residents face an even bigger price increase in 2020 when the music stops and the money merry-go round ends.
Mr O’Connor said despite Labor’s claim of a record health spend, people were still waiting longer for essential services.
“We have gone back to the bad old days where ramping, wait lists and reduced services are the norm,” he said.
“Ambulance ramping has well and truly set in across Queensland and Labor has no solution to fix it.
“This is a classic Labor health budget – made up of massive cost blow outs, poor patient outcomes and millions underspent in promised capital.”
